It is common knowledge that we share more traits with our family members than we do with those unrelated to us. In fact, each cell of your body has the option of taking directives from two gene pools-- your maternal and/or paternal genes. For some cell functions, one or the other gene version is used; yet for others, directives can be taken from both.

Now, depending on the ancestry of your parents, the version of any given gene you inherited may be identical or may differ in their DNA sequence at one or more places.
